Community Style Acupuncture

What is "community acupuncture?" Community acupuncture is a rapidly growing movement that began with Working Class Acupuncture in Portland, Oregon.  Each community acupuncture clinic is independently owned and unique.  However, we all share one common goal, which is to make acupuncture more affordable and accessible by offering treatments in a supportive community setting for a sliding scale fee.  For more information or to find a community acupuncture clinic near you visit:  www.pocacoop.com/clinics/.

How are we different?

We treat in a group setting.

Most US acupuncturists treat patients on tables in individual cubicles.  We take a more traditional approach and treat in a community setting.  Our treatment room more closely resembles a living room than a medical office.  Patients sit in comfortable recliners arranged in a large, quiet, soothing space.  We find this approach has many benefits:  it's easy for friends and family to come in for treatment together; many patients find it comforting; and a calm, relaxing atmosphere is established that actually makes each individual treatment stronger. You receive treatment while fully clothed in a healing group setting.

We charge on a sliding scale.
Our sliding scale of $20-$50 dollars per treatment allows you to choose the fee that best fits into your life and your budget.  Income verification is not required. The purpose of our sliding scale is to separate the issues of money and treatment. We want you to come in often enough to really get better and stay better!

*There is a one-time $10 initial intake fee on the first visit.

We advocate for regular, frequent treatments.

We care about air quality in our clinic space!
Sloth Around has been intentionally designed to best support our patients who have respiratory issues such as multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS), asthma, allergies, lung disease, or who are immunocompromised due to illness or medication side effects.  Our clinic uses an air purifier, which removes common irritants such as pollens, molds, and germs from the air.  Additionally, our reclining chairs have never been exposed to pets or second-hand smoke.  You can breathe easy knowing that we’ve thought of you!

We are committed to creating a welcoming environment for all.
We do not discriminate based on race, age, religion, ability, marital status, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, height, weight, national origin, language, education, HIV status, immigration status, or any other reason you can think of.  Harassment of any kind is not welcome in our clinic. We strive to do everything possible to create a welcoming environment for all members of our communities.  Our commitment to non-discrimination extends beyond the words written on this website.  We firmly believe that creating a safe space for healing is an ongoing process and we welcome all conversations on this topic, as well as opportunities for continued growth and development.
